Steve Hootman from the Rhododendron
Species Garden

Steve Hootman is the Executive Director and Curator of the Rhododendron Species Botanical Garden, which has been called "one of the top five botanical gardens in the country". The garden contains the most comprehensive collection of Rhododendron species in the world and includes a tremendous assortment of companion plants collected from exotic locations around the planet. 
 
Steve has participated in or led around twenty expeditions into the remote regions of the world, looking for rare and new taxa of rhododendrons and other plants and is considered one of the world authorities on the genus of Rhododendron as well as related taxa Agapetes, Vaccinium and Gaultheria.
 
This is a potluck style event, so please bring a dish or beverage to share. If you don't have an item to share, you can bring money to donate.

 

 

 

    A Walk Through Bellevue Botanical Garden
     With George Lasch

Come take a walk through Bellevue Botanical Garden with George Lasch, the man who led the renovation of the famed National Perennial Alliance boarder at BBG. As we tour the garden, you will learn why George thinks some plants are more garden worthy than others, through his opinionated and hilarious lens.

George is known by many for his passion for plants, the "good, bad and why bother" series of lectures he does for the Master Gardeners and hydrangea pruning lectures at PlantAmnesty's Prune-A-Thon. He has also been shaping horticultural minds at Edmonds Community College for over 10 years, and has a lifetime's worth of experience working at public gardens throughout the US and UK.
